Eating and drinking in Post Falls: downtown, Horsehaven Avenue and Seltice Way

Where Post Falls eats and drinks, from our listings: Seltice Way end to end, downtown Spokane Street, a food truck address on Horsehaven, the state line.

I-90 has five exits in Post Falls, from Beck Road at the Washington line to Highway 41 on the east side, and the places to eat follow the interstate across town. One street, Seltice Way, runs almost the whole length of it and carries more food and drink addresses than any other. Off that spine there are a few tight clusters: downtown around City Hall, a single address on East Horsehaven Avenue that holds a crowd of food trucks, and a knot of places right at the Washington line.

This guide comes from the street addresses in our own restaurant, bar, coffee and bakery listings, about 155 in all, sorted by where they sit. We have not eaten our way through them and we do not rank them. Nothing here recommends a business. It is a map.

Seltice Way, end to end

Seltice Way carries part of I-90's business loop through the city center. In our data it runs from the 7200 block West, a few steps from the Washington line, to the 6200 block East, and 39 of our food and drink listings have a Seltice Way address, more than any other street.

It is not one strip so much as three. The west end sits by the state line, the middle crosses downtown near Spokane Street, and the long eastern stretch between roughly the 1500 and 2900 blocks East holds a steady run of coffee, Mexican, barbecue and bakery addresses. Seltice is also where the coffee is: 10 of our 26 coffee listings have a Seltice Way address, half of them on the east side. Eight of our 20 bars are on it too.

Downtown around City Hall

Downtown Post Falls centers on North Spokane Street, where City Hall sits at number 408. Within about half a mile of City Hall we count 34 food and drink listings, including 6 of our 20 bars and one of our breweries. Restaurants, bars and pizza lead the mix, with a few bakeries and coffee counters.

Falls Park and Post Falls Landing are a short walk west, so dinner downtown pairs with an evening at the river. On the second weekend of July the Post Falls Festival fills this part of town, and the parade closes Seltice Way east of Spokane Street on the Saturday morning.

One address on East Horsehaven Avenue

The single busiest address in our food listings is 3758 East Horsehaven Avenue, on the east side of town. Nineteen of our restaurant, pizza and bakery listings give it as their address, and several of the names on it are food trucks; one listing there is the pavilion itself. What that means for a visitor is choice in one parking lot: tacos, sushi, pelmeni dumplings, smash burgers, pizza and pretzels all turn up in the names. Food trucks keep their own schedules, so check before you drive over for one in particular.

At the state line

The west end of town, around I-90's first Idaho exit at Beck Road and Pointe Parkway, holds 15 of our food and drink listings within about a mile of the Washington line, including 4 bars. It is the first stop in Idaho for anyone coming east from Spokane, and the last one heading west.

The other clusters

  • Mullan Avenue, north of Seltice on the east side, has 10 of our listings, four of them coffee.
  • Highway 41, just off I-90's exit 7, has 8, about half of them national quick-service chains.
  • West Riverbend Avenue, on the west side of town, has 8, including a brewery, two bars and a pizza place, near one of our hotel listings.

Pizza has 14 listings and Mexican 10. Barbecue, Asian and American have 4 each, so for those it pays to look at the Restaurants page too.

A local flavor

The huckleberry is Idaho's state fruit (Montana claims it too). It grows wild across the Northwest, on subalpine slopes and in forests, bogs and lake basins, and attempts to grow some kinds from seed have failed. When a menu in Post Falls lists huckleberry, that is the berry it means.

Buying a bottle

Idaho sells spirits through the state. The Idaho State Liquor Division has a monopoly on every alcoholic drink over 16 percent alcohol by volume, and distilled spirits are sold only in state-operated liquor stores and contract stores the division authorizes. Even bars and restaurants buy their spirits from the state's stores. Beer and wine under that strength are outside the state's monopoly.

Getting home

If you are drinking, leave the car. Downtown is walkable from the parks and the river, but most of the listings on Seltice Way and at the state line are a drive apart. Plan the ride back before the first round.

Using our listings

The Restaurants, Bars, Coffee Shops, Mexican, Pizza, Asian, American, Bakeries, Breweries and Barbecue pages each list what we hold, with the street address, so you can see what is on the strip you are closest to. We carry no menus, prices, ratings or hours. Call ahead, especially on a Sunday or a holiday.
